Start Your Morning Right

I rose to an early breakfast
Cereal in a crystal bowl;
But, I carelessly forgot
Food for my hungry soul.

My dinner meal was prepared
A meal fit for a king,
Again I overlooked my spirit,
Starved; it never received a thing.

Supper was served at eight
To my stomach I was a slave,
But, my inward man cried out;
Not a morsel to it I gave.

I soon had a mid night snack
Before going to bed,
But not a word from my Bible;
I snoozed with my soul unfed.

I stuffed my body with wholesome food
And what did I get in return,
Ulcers, heartburn, and indigestion
And rebuke from a God I'd spurned.

Tomorrow when I wake up
I'll thank Him for his watch and care,
And before I taste a morsel
I'll bow my head in prayer.

When evening time comes around
And supper on the table's spread,
I'll thank God for each morsel,
And read my bible before going to bed.

Feeding my spirit will enrich my soul
And tomorrow will be a much nicer day,
It's easier facing life's challenges,
When we take time each morning to pray.
