I Can Still Remember
When men stood proud, with hat in hand
When "Old Glory" came down the street,
Now it's apathy and indifference;
When cowards march to a different drummers beat.
I remember when "Old Glory" was honored;
When no one would dare desecrate
Today we pass laws to protect "Old Glory"
As enemies burn it to vent their angry hate.
I remember when wars were fought,
And victory was their final end,
Now politicians dictate the rules;
And start wars they know we'll never win.
I remember when the cry was "onward to victory"
And brave men knew the reason why,
Today the liberal left send then to battle
And are quick to fill our minds with a lie.
I remember when the good old U.S. of A.
Ordered the strategy for every battle plan;
Now the politicians in Washington
Allow them to be under the U.N. Command.
We get involved in every nations conflict,
For years they've fought long and hard,
Our sons and dads will become "cannon fodder"
And "body bags" will be our sad reward.
When we realized another sad mistake
The men who survive should stand proud and tall,
Instead they'll share the shame and tears
As we weep beside another granite wall.
Oh, God, please help us overcome this sad era
As brave men dig in to the winter snow and mud,
Watch over our fighting men and boys in Bosnia
And may their precious souls be covered by Your blood.
