No Greater Love
You say your heart's so full of love
For a friend you'd suffer whatever the cost,
You say for others to gain the victory
You would gladly suffer loss.
Would you stand by quietly
While wicked men spat in your face,
Would you bare your back to the whip
And take stripes for all the human race?
(Jesus did; would you?)
Would you endure suffering in a painful way
And still not hate; but plead,
Would you bear the bruises and torn flesh
Until at last every soul was freed?
(Jesus did; would you?)
Would you suffer humiliation at the hands of men
And take it all in stride,
Would you suffer on the old rugged cross,
On the Cross where Jesus died?
(Jesus did; would you?)
Would you love the men who pierced your side
And planted a crown of thorns upon your head,
Would you love the howling mob that made fun of you
Until at long last you were dead?
(Jesus did; would you?)
Jesus did all these for His sworn enemies
Knowing full well they would take His life,
Would you do it for your loved ones
If you knew you'd have to pay such an awful price?
(Jesus did; for you!)
