First Things First
When preachers stop preaching on long hair;
And strike sin a devastating blow,
And prays for the soul to be made clean,
The long hair is bound to go.
When he gets off cigarettes and tobacco
And on the soul that's lost today,
And let God bring Holy Ghost conviction
They'll throw the cancer sticks away.
When the preacher uses the precious sword
They'll speak from much cleaner lips,
They'll think with a blood washed heart;
And there'll be no more careless slips.
When the preachers tell it like it is
Strong drink they'll soon forsake,
The Heaven bound saints will be sober
Not one drop will any of them take.
When preachers stop majoring on the minors
And preach Jesus by God's amazing grace,
And puts the spiritual horse before the cart
God's redemption plan will fall into place.
When the preacher stops trying to convert
And lets the spirit have His way,
There'll be more born again conversions
And repentance for which to pray.
When the preacher turns back to God's Word
And casts the social message out,
There will be more happy Christians;
And a hunger for what Christianity's all about.
We must have the blood washed word of God
These compromised messages will no longer do,
In these days of evil contradictions
Only God's word will see us through.
So, preacher, if you're an under shepherd, preach
Feed the flock manna from above,
You'll hear,"Well done, my good and faithful servant"
As God bends down to send His eternal love.
